Episode 39: The God Amongst Men

The Legacy found shelter at the Hawthorne Hut in the East Shroud after their journey to Zenith. The group was about to face Odin but they were unsure how hard their final enemy would be. Thankfully, the group arrived late evening allowing them to get rest before heading out to find him. Trunks seemed to be lost in his thoughts, Anthi herself was leaning against the wall smoking more than usual, three butts were already at her feet, and her ears twitched periodically meant that there was something else going on in her mind. K'enion was outside looking out across the land, ears flicking a bit at the different sounds of the forest as well as what was being said inside.

Also in the hut was Jayne and Dorion; the two were discussing how they felt their life was coming full circle. Jayne met Selene here years ago after Dorion was rescued from Haukke Manor. It was like she was taken back for a moment but, she feared losing everyone as Odin was known to be an unpredictable primal. As the two discussed strategies Anthi seemed to be taking a personal call of her own on her linkpearl whereas Ljrn finally arrived on the scene.

For a brief moment, Jayne shares with the group how she is concerned for their fight against Odin and has already made preparations with the Winter Twins and Zena to be ready to strike should the group need it. Dorion and Ljrn try to reassure her that things will be fine and if they were to face Lady Death then this would be the best way to handle the situation. Jayne thanks Ljrn for being the voice of reason for her when her thoughts are grim.


Trunks admits to the group that he fears Odin as well but, he knows if they don’t do something about him then they will never be able to find Lady Death and Eorzea will fall into darker times. Ljrn suggests that the group reassess the situation before they headed into battle to make sure they were making the right decisions. Dorion agrees and talks among the group that the reason they must be careful is that if they were to fall to Odin the Legacy would be defeated and the world would fall into the darkness. Hearing such thoughts and concerns The Legacy bands together and puts their fears behind them so they can head out to fight.

Jayne readies the infirmary should Dr. Arda need any assistance when they return as she knew it would be a hard fight. Jayne kissed her fiancé goodbye for the time and as she did Shiva emerged from the room she was resting in ready to join the others. Dorion noticed new energy around the mage but, didn’t question it for the time being. The group gathers together as Leric makes the call that he has located Odin in the Brambles.


As the group enters the brambles the tension in the air was strong and heavy. In the distance, Odin could be spotted. There were textbooks and drawings of how the primal looked but, he did not fit the description that they all knew of. Ljrn mentions that she always knew the Legend to have a horse and this did not fit the description at all. Dorion mentions that he knew where Sleipnir was but, this was not the Odin his father fought when he came to Eorzea. The group questions the authenticity of this Odin but, Shiva says that the Saint within confirms that he was a god but, it felt as if he was from another shard or something.

Anthi confirms that she feels the same way as Saint Shiva did. Trunks takes a scope out from his gun and points to Odin’s left arm. He notices that Odin must have had a fight with Lady Death prior to coming to these lands and it would probably be a good weak point for them to hit him first. The group agrees and rushes in to face Odin.

Ready to fight Shiva grabs a hold of her staff and runs ahead. Normally the ice-cold mage was feeling fiery and rushed towards Odin with a series of ice strikes. - Shiva smirks as she looked at the God before her. Shiva flicked her hair from her eyes showing that one of her eyes was white and that meant Saint Shiva was present and ready to assist if need be.  K'enion decided to back up Shiva but instead met Odin face to face.  Odin focused his attack on K'enion using his left arm to drive a wheel-like hand onto her weapon. The sparks from her weapon struck her face! Anthi notices that left arm was being used to attack and grins. "Thanks for the distraction!" Anthi launches herself forward and slams her gun blade into the damaged arm, pulling the trigger to make a loud explosion.


Trunks decides to try and fire his gun however a bullet jams in the chamber. Odin sees Trunks heading towards him and since his attack failed Odin saw it as a moment to strike. A dark ring was felt around Trunks’ neck choking him of the air around him. Seeing Trunks in danger Dorion tried to slide underneath Odin. Dorion’s attempt at an attack would have gone well however, Odin quickly whipped around to strike Dorion down. Trying to create a diversion as well, Ljrn’s newly constructed nouliths unleashed a series of white-hot beams of aether at the Primal; but they were not effective to him. The primal chuckles at her and shoots a few back hitting her skin.


Feeling the momentum of her last attack Shiva rushes in and begins to place a ring around the neck of Odin using the ice ring to distract Odin from hurting her fiancé. Shiva screamed for Odin to get his hands off of Trunks and the primal loses grip and tries to fight her back. K’enion grabbed her lance again as if it had a switch, black flames flicker off of it for a moment before she leapt into the air slamming it down on the ground sending a wave of dark fire out towards the primal. The two women were a great team giving Trunks the chance to move away. As Trunks escapes, he hits Odin’s arm with a rock he found causing springs to come loose in the primal’s arm.


Shiva decided to keep shifting back onto the field keeping Trunks’ words in mind that the left arm was the weakest spot on the primal. Shiva aims for his right leg trying to disable his movement by striking him with ice in the knee. The primal falls for just a moment looking towards her with hatred. K’enion followed Shiva by once again grabbing her lance and giving a wide swing, sending a wave of fire towards him before charging after it aiming to drive her lance into the primal’s armor.

The machinal Odin began to spark more and as the sparks finally began to fly, Anthi wiped her chin with her fist and grinned. Anthi ran up Odin's arm and slugged him right in the chin before jumping off. Anthi had placed a small explosive on the primal’s face and a few seconds later an explosion goes off right where she punched. Odin stumbled back speaking in an unknown tongue to the party; however, the primal grew angrier with The Legacy.


Trunks stepped around Odin thinking leaping on his bent hoping to rifle swing Odin in an attempt to knock the primal unconscious. Odin grabbed Trunks once again and began to squeeze at Trunks’ neck once more; determined to stop the m’iqote from breathing.  Seeing Trunks in danger, Dorion leapt into the air and sliced open the arm that held Trunks' neck.  As Trunks fell, Dorion caught his friend and helped him to his feet. The two nodded and readied to head back into battle. With Dorion and Trunks vunerable Ljrn began to directing her tools to zero in and form a ring, directing energy to create a linear burst of magick.  As the spell flies past The Legacy, it galvanized the aether around them protecting the group from Odin’s attacks.


Shiva continued to attack feeling the energy around her. Shiva dropped her staff into the ground and began to channel the energy around The Legacy. Pulling the tension from the air Shiva lead an attack that pulled the moisture from the fog sending shards of ice to strike the primal.  Feeling the aura from Shiva K'enion growled as she charged ramming her lance into the primal’s armor. Black Flames poured from her lance damaging the primal where he stood. With K’enion striking, Trunks dropped his rifle and whipped out some of his techs. Trunks took out a helmet, scanning visor, nerve sensory gloves, and leg covers. As Trunks worked with his tech, he pressed a series of buttons and made commands calling upon a bot of his own. The muscular-looking bot burst onto the scene and headed towards Odin. With Trunks using his gear to attack the primal, the bot followed his every move now kickboxing the primal.  Odin began to stumble back, and his left arm sparked more as the fight went on.

Dorion feeling the momentum of his comrades rushed in and began to claw away at the breaking arm. Hinges began to break open and a dark tar-like substance soaked the ground before them. Shiva notices the oil on the ground and backs herself a bit and continues to use the ice. Shiva skates her way over to her fiancé and blows him a kiss before sending another shard of ice towards the opposite injured arm. Trunks stepped out toward the black ichor upon the ground and grabbed his drill cannon from the back of his bot. As he seems to glide over the oil pools using his wind manipulation to guide his footsteps Trunks lunged in and plunged the Drill against Odin’s chest. Once the initial contact was made, he yanked the lever as the drill plunged through the front of Odin.


Shiva swung her staff in circular movements as she carefully danced along the grass the young mage found herself striking the leg she injured earlier. Her staff dug into his leg causing more of the aether to leak out. Odin in desperation decided to go after K’enion striking her any way he could. With K’enion in danger, Trunks tried to jump in to save her and bring her to safety. As Dorion watches as Trunks lead Kenion away from danger, Dorion took his weapon and pushed it into the ground channeling the magick in the air around them. The orbs that danced in the air turned to balls of lighting and began to strike Odin like bullets; the primal began to bleed more. As Dorion attacks, Ljrn has an idea and asks if the group can buy her some time.

Shiva nods and focuses on Odin for Ljrn. The air around the party grew ice-cold as the left eye of shiva was now pure white like her right eye. The magick was surging hard in her and she continue to give Odin hit after hit. The young mage was on a blitz as she continued to throw ice-like daggers at the creature. Shiva began to breathe heavily as the light around her turned to fire.
"Paradox," Shiva replied

The Voice of both Shiva and Saint were present during the powerful blast


With Ljrn still preparing Anthi returned just in time with her own attack. Anthi grins as the final lock falls into place on her weapon. Anthi pushed the button creating an opening launching a missile from the device she carried. The missile struck Odin directly leaving him barely standing. Dorion called to Ljrn who was ready. Ljrn gathered her Nouliths to once more form the firing ring, but this time, she channels a spell into them; the aether-stilling magic of Holy.  The beam fires and slams into Odin, the magick of Holy attempts to make the dark-aspected oil lose its motive power, and simply remove the spark of life from the apparently artificial Primal. The Odin that stood before them began to convulse and a demonic voice filled the air warning them that this was not the end of evil Hydaelyn would ever see.

The skies lighten once again giving the group the chance to feel normal again. This was one of the hardest fights to date that the group took and they knew it was worth their while. Shiva mentions to the group with Odin now out of the lands they would be able to pinpoint Lady Death’s airship. The group mentions how once the airship is found they will also be able to save Trunks’ brother.

However, Trunks once again lets the group in on another secret; the person they knew as Bon wasn’t his brother but a female friend of his. Shiva grows tired of the matter and makes her way back to Hawthorne Hut. K’enion and Anthi question why Trunks would keep such a big secret from the group but he explains that once back at the hut he could explain the details of why he had to keep this secret for so long. Dorion and Ljrn both seem unsurprised of the situation however, share a mutual feeling that drinks may be needed.
